Immigration Enforcement Hurts Labor Laws

by Administrator 28. October 2009 12:37

An American policy group has recently come out with a report that states that immigration enforcement in the work place has led to a lack of labor violation enforcement.  The policy statement said that with the focus almost entirely on immigration issues,  issues such as labor violations have taken a back burner.

The organization has called for the Obama administration to do a better job at balancing the issues of labor and immigration laws together,  stating that this will help protect workers from hostile work environment and poor working conditions.

Immigration Detention Centers to Get Overhaul

by Administrator 12. October 2009 15:40

A recent announcement by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security stated that many facilities that hold U.S. immigration detainees will be undergoing an overhaul.  The recent announcement follows a report about some of the horrible conditions and treatment of individuals who were held in these centers.

The overhaul of the facilities is said to focus on the risk that some individuals pose in detention.  Individuals that are low risk and a part of families will be housed in facilities appropriate for their situation.  Individuals that are detained and have a criminal or violent past will be housed based on their risk level as well according to the announcement.

Many individuals question if an actual overhaul of the system will occur, because of past disappointment with reforms to serious immigration issues.

Arizona Sheriff to Continue Immigrant Sweeps

by Administrator 7. October 2009 08:31

One of the most controversial figures in the immigration debate, Sheriff Joe Arpaio stated recently that he would continue with his sweeps in hopes of detaining illegal immigrants in this country. These types of sweeps which are local government level, not federal government level,  have come under fire recently as many believe that the sweeps are discriminatory.  Reports of legal Mexican immigrants being detained and harassed during immigration enforcement sweeps by the Sheriff has been reported in several cases.

A lawsuit is currently occurring that questions the legality of such sweeps.  Joe Arpaio has stated that he will continue his enforcement of laws.  He has even declared that the federal government needs to copy his enforcement efforts to handle the problem of immigration.

Obama Discusses Immigrants and Healthcare

by Administrator 21. September 2009 15:13

Recently President Obama is meeting with many network television stations in hopes of raising support for his healthcare plan.  A part of this meeting included a stop at Univision.

While in an interview,  President Obama stated that he did not believe that illegal immigrants should be allowed coverage as a part of his plan.  He did leave the option though for these individuals to get health insurance through a private company.

President Obama has recently been attacked by those against healthcare, stating that it would provide unlimited coverage to those individuals in this country illegally.
